Our Prevention Efforts
Street Outreach & Crisis Care
Street Outreach & Crisis Care is often the first step for youth in crisis. Our outreach team is on the streets of Anchorage seven days a week looking for and checking in on young people in the community that may need assistance.
This team can assist young people in moving out of dangerous situations to get somewhere safer, and provide immediate care.
- Food, warm clothing, and bus passes
- Emergency transportation and crisis intervention
- Building trust and offering support in a non-judgmental way
Community Awareness & Training
Community involvement and awareness are some of the biggest ways to help prevent youth homelessness before it begins.
We offer training to the community on how to identify warning signs, offer support, and connect youth to resources early.
Many young people are facing sex-trafficking, labor-trafficking, and risk of opioid overdose. By spreading awareness of these issues, we help build a stronger safety net for them.
- Training for schools and youth programs
- Presentations for local groups and businesses
- Partnerships with community organizations
- Advocacy to address root causes
- Public awareness campaigns
Systems & Policy Improvement
- Collaboration with state and local agencies
- Policy advocacy to fill service gaps
- Research to guide best practices
- Efforts to reduce barriers to housing and care
