Move In Day Is Here – Covenant House Alaska Launches Academy Housing Program to Improve Youth Independence and Teach Life Skills!

coveyhousePress Release

ANCHORAGE, AK, June 10, 2025 – Covenant House Alaska (CHA) is pleased to announce the launch of its new Academy Housing program, commencing May 27th at Covey Academy. This 1-year pilot initiative is a crucial step in preventing long-term homelessness by providing targeted support for young adults (18-24) ready to build independent lives. This vital program is made possible through the generous support of the Rasmuson Foundation, the Municipality of Anchorage, and the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness (ACEH).

The Academy Housing program targets young adults already engaged with Covenant House Alaska services. Eligibility includes completing the Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA2) application with ACEH, receiving approval, and scoring 2+ on the Assessment for Independent Readiness. Youth must also engage with a Success Navigator and participate in Academy programming.

This program offers more than housing; it’s built on a philosophy of empowerment, agency, community, opportunity, and navigation. Academy Housing is designed for youth ready to focus on skills for independent living and transition to permanent housing.

Residents will have access to a supportive, youth-centered environment with fully private rooms, three meals daily, laundry access, and paid utilities. They also have full access to CHA resources, including education/employment services.

Core expectations include daily Academy activities, weekly meetings with their Success Navigator, completing the trauma-informed “Life Skills Re-Imagined” curriculum, and regular engagement with mentors. The program is projected for a 3 to 6-month stay, guiding residents through four stages: Integration, Foundation Building, Growth & Engagement, and Launch.

During their stay, a dedicated team, including a Program Manager, Success Navigators, and Mentors, will support youth growth, healing, and success, emphasizing independent living habits through coaching in areas like hygiene, time management, employment, budgeting, and community connection.
